Solve this challenge to apply for an internship with Garmin’s fitness R&D team!

We are looking for a talented Engineer or Computer Scientist to join our R&D team in Stellenbosch.  If you are passionate about designing products that can influence the lives of millions of people, this should excite you.

At the Garmin Stellenbosch site, we are passionate about using Radar in creative ways for consumer and fitness applications. The dataset on the next page contains ADC data from two Radar sweeps. This Radar is a FMCW Radar, where target range is related to mixer output frequency according to the following equation:

𝑐0 βˆ™ βˆ†f

𝑅

𝑇𝑠𝑀𝑒𝑒𝑝

Where

𝑅 is the range of the target in meters

βˆ†π‘“ is the mixer output frequency in Hertz (this is what the ADC samples)

𝑐0 is the speed of light (use 3×108π‘š/𝑠), BW is the FMCW bandwidth = 50MHz and 𝑇𝑠𝑀𝑒𝑒𝑝 is the FMCW sweep time = 100πœ‡π‘ .

How accurately can you estimate the target positions in each sweep of the dataset? Can you estimate if the targets have moved between the first and second sweep and by how much?

Applicants will be judged according to the performance of the submitted algorithm, coding elegance and quality of CV.

Send your solution and CV to nolan.vanheerden@garmin.com

Before 30 November 2017
